Back when I was a kid, I didn’t have many friends, what I had was a bunch of bullies. I was bullied throughout my elementary school life. I was obese, and I had to wear Doctor prescription shoes due to my congenital disease that made me unable to stand on my feet for a long time, and because of that condition, I couldn’t play soccer and do activities as other normal kids would.

I’ve been bullied for most of my childhood life, and it eventually leads me to depression and isolation. Most of my problems as a kid came from my weight because I was overweight and it actually made my feet even worse, it made my insecurities worse and made other kids bullied me even more, and because of that, I spent most of my childhood life watching movies, cartoons and reading a bunch of comic books. that habit grows until I’ve turned 15 years old because the effect of the bullying that I experienced when I was in elementary school really damaged my self-esteem and it makes me a very shy person.

when I was 15 years old, I’ve realized that there was something wrong with me, the people around me were nice and friendly yet I have trouble getting along with them. I was shy and I was afraid that people might hurt me like when I was in elementary school. I had trust issues and insecurities yet I didn’t do much about it until I came across and watch a movie that moved me and intrigued me to do something about my problems.

That movie was Rocky, played by Sylvester Stallone. If you’re unfamiliar with that movie, Rocky is a movie about a local underdog Boxer that punched his way to the top and finally gain some recognition and be able to fight a boxing champion. I did mention that I was overweight, and I never put any effort to lose weight, but when I watched Rocky, I was mesmerized by how resilient rocky is as a person, I mean he never backed down regardless of any tough obstacles that come to his way, and after I watched that movie, I realized that I want to be as resilient and strong as him. So I rewatched that movie a couple of times and start copying his Diet and Workout routine. Long story short, I’ve joined a Boxing Gym and I’ve lost over 30 kilos in a year.

I never thought I could ever lose that much weight and eventually gain confidence, I’ve realized that movies could teach me things that school and family never teach me. There are also some books that helped me improve my life quality, some books that I really like are 12 rules of life by Jordan Peterson, the art of seduction by Robert Greene, and many more. Another movie that has a big impact on my life is The Godfather trilogy, from The Godfather, I’ve learned that sometimes you have to get your hands dirty to get something done, it taught me to never feel intimidated by your enemies. By learning from movies and implement some of the things that I’ve learned into my daily life, gradually makes my life much better. I dress better, my English keeps getting better (English is not my first language) and if I found myself in a tricky situation, I would imagine what would Michael Corleone do if he’s in my situation. In other words, movies and books have made my life better, it triggers me to regain control of my life and live like the main character of a movie, my movie.
